“There is something about words. In expert hands, manipulated deftly, they take you prisoner.”

— Diane Setterfield, The Thirteenth Tale.

This Tumult by Caroline Preston

This Tumult, debut novel of Irish author Caroline Preston who's interview by local historian, John Lyons, drew a big crowd at the Books@One Festival, is our choice for September.

A formidable account (part factual, part fictional) by an author delving into a tumultuous period in her family's history against the backdrop of the Second World War. With interwoven stories of very real characters, Caroline doesn't shy away from telling the story in all it's drama and danger.

This novel will surely keep you gripped this Autumn.

The Summer may now be over and kids gone back to school but we still have a whole heap of stuff to look forward to. Books@One is expecting a new arrival so be sure to "stay tuned" for updates...

With the first ever Books@One Festival and four new businesses opening in Louisburgh this year (Wild Atlantic Leisure, Good Grazing Takeaway, Solas Craft Shop & Upstairs Gallery and The Art Room) there's already been a great buzz in the town and from this month we're also going to have our very own Louisburgh Music School.

Yes. That's right. A MUSIC School.

June 2018 will see completion of phased development of the Clew Bay Trail with 8km of walking and cycling trails at Louisburgh, Old Head, Murrisk and Bertra, eventually

connecting Louisburgh to the Great Western Greenway at Westport town and potentially making it one of the most iconic attractions along the Wild Atlantic Way and one of the most scenic Greenway trails in the world.

In the meantime, September's a lovely time of the year here and there's quite a bit going on yet, always a highlight are the September Sessions at An Bhun Abhainn and some of us have the Clew Bay Half Marathon to face.

Books@One events are detailed below so read on...
