Caroline Preston -

This Tumult

 

"This Tumult is the story of a Protestant family in Co. Westmeath who choose to join the fight against Hitler. Openly inspired by the author's maternal relatives, she describes it as her tribute to a generation whose sacrifice and suffering were often airbrushed from official Irish history" Indo Review. Local historian, John Lyon, has a chat with first-time novelist, Caroline Preston, a truly remarkable lady.

One Year On

 

Books@One is privileged to share a first birthday with the publication of two amazing novels by two County Mayo natives. Red Dirt by Elizabeth M. Reapy and Solar Bones by Mike McCormack (Man Booker Prize 2017 Nominee...we just can't tire of saying it...) have created Wild Atlantic Waves in literary circles in the past year and we're delighted they'll be joining us this evening to celebrate. They'll be chatting with our own Caroline Healy

Legends of Louisburgh- Kieran Cooke

 

Kieran Cooke has been a regular visitor to Louisburgh for more than 30 years. A former correspondent for both the BBC and Financial Times, here he will read two pieces previously broadcast on the BBC about Louisburgh people he came to know over the years; two well-loved members of the community, Oliver Harney (former Garage Owner, late of Chapel Street) and Charlie Gaffney (former Publican, also late of Chapel Street) - there'll be time for some Q&A before we open up the floor for the last event of the weekend, the Open Mic session.
