First edition of this lovely, small format, photobook on Queen Elizabeth’s coronation, which features 45 finely screened photogravure plates by Izis that delightfully capture the pageantry of a city sparkling with fireworks, regimental parades and banners flying.
In the summer of 1953, with the coronation of the young Queen Elizabeth, Britain was emerging from the dark days of the long war. This charming, often witty remembrance of that time is illustrated by the renowned photographer Izis Bidermanas (best known for his photographs of French circuses and of Paris) with 45 full-page photogravures of parades, streets lined with expectant crowds, and shops decorated with pictures of the young Queen.
As mentioned in Parr & Badger’s The Photobook: A History. The accompanying text is by prolific British journalist, poet & author John Pudney.
