BOOK OF THE MONTH

A bit of a departure this month as our book choice is recommended and reviewed by Jake Kilcoyne Kellegher, a member of the Books@One Team...

With a long-standing interest in the natural world it didn't take much for The Aliens Among Us to catch my eye. What Leslie Anthony has done in this 340 page exploration of invasive species is define what an invasive species is, provide examples of their toll on the environment, and describe what is being done to control the damage.

FESTIVAL 2018

Following on the success of the 2017 Book Festival, Books@One was invited to broaden the existing format by participating with other members of the creative community to evolve the book festival into a Louisburgh Arts Festival, thereby embracing music and art as well as all things literary.

The Louisburgh Arts Committee devised a wonderful line-up and it promised to be a very exciting & action-packed week in August. Unfortunately, in early July it became apparent that anticipated funding from various bodies was being reduced and therefore due to the potential lack of funding, the committee felt that it could not go ahead and commit to an ambitious 2018 Festival.

Whilst we are of course saddened that there will not be a festival this year, we are not discouraged and, as you can see, the Books@One August events schedule is fairly packed with workshops and readings – we look forward to seeing you!
