LOUISBURGH SPACE CAMP RETURNS!
Wednesday 8th to Friday 10th August Books@One (11am to 1pm daily)
Calling all 8-12 year olds to reach for the stars with Deirdre Kelleghan, local artist, astronomer & educator. The three day workshop will highlight moons, comets, and meteors. Participants will also begin artwork that addresses the affects of light pollution on birds, build a comet, and learn all of the latest news in space and astronomy.

BOOK LAUNCH! CLEW BAY CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION

The much anticipated launch of Tales of Clew Bay - an anthology of 50 selected stories and images from over 200 competition entries. The competition was sponsored by the Mayo Sailing Club, Mayo News and Books@One and the book is being printed on Books@One's very own Espresso Book Machine.
READERS THEATRE RETURNS

Another chance to join Catriona Cunniffe for the Readers Theatre Workshop for 9 to 11 year olds. Readers Theatre is a dramatic presentation of a written work in a script form where readers read from a "script" and reading parts are divided among the readers. With a long-standing interest in the natural world it didn't take much for The Aliens Among Us to catch my eye. What Leslie Anthony has done in this 340 page exploration of invasive species is define what an invasive species is, provide examples of their toll on the environment, and describe what is being done to control the damage.
While this is, in essence, a scientific work, it is written with a wit and accessibility that will enable even those with only a passing interest to learn from and enjoy the book...read on...

Following on the success of the 2017 Book Festival, Books@One was invited to broaden the existing format by participating with other members of the creative community to evolve the book festival into a Louisburgh Arts Festival, thereby embracing music and art as well as all things literary.
The Louisburgh Arts Committee devised a wonderful line-up and it promised to be a very exciting & action-packed week in August. Unfortunately, in early July it became apparent that anticipated funding from various bodies was being reduced and therefore due to the potential lack of funding, the committee felt that it could not go ahead and commit to an ambitious 2018 Festival.
Whilst we are of course saddened that there will not be a festival this year, we are not discouraged and, as you can see, the Books@One August events schedule is fairly packed with workshops and readings – we look forward to seeing you!
